Dance and Injuries

Dance Injuries Such as Acute and Overuse Injuries Can Develop from Repeated Spins and Lifting

Like other physical activity, dance comes with a risk of injury.  In dancers, injuries to the shoulder and arm are not as common as lower extremity injuries. However, acute and overuse injuries from repeated spins, lifting, and drops can lead to injury. Also, dance move that involves weight bearing on the shoulder and/or arm can produce atypical stresses to the shoulder joint and can also lead to injury.

Most Common Dance Injuries

  • Rotator Cuff Tear
  • Shin Splints
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Shoulder Spain
  • Stress Fracture

You Can Prevent Dance Injuries by Warming Up Major Muscles Properly

One of the most important ways to prevent dance injuries is to take the time to properly warm up the major muscles of the body. If injury occurs, consult with chiropractor for proper care.
